A nature reserve all to myself

Keen to take advantage of a sunny and dry morning, a combination which has been somewhat rare in the West of England of late, I took myself off to Catcott Nature Reserve on the Somerset Levels yesterday.

After enjoying a wealth of small bird life on the walk up to the hide I was delighted to discover that I was the only visitor – of the human kind at least. Most of the waterfowl were sleeping and the atmosphere was beautifully calm.

I returned home feeling renewed and refreshed, grateful to live in a place such as Somerset which offers numerous opportunities to get close to nature in this manner.
